For the past five years my central subject has been my family in the wake of my parents’ divorce. In From Here on Out, I explore how the divorce has given way to shifts in my family members’ established roles and interpersonal dynamics. At once personally empathic and formally reflective, the photographs intimate tensions to unearth connections.
Alex Nelson was born in 1989 in New York and raised in a small town in Maine. She received her BFA in Photography from the Fashion Institute of Technology. Her work has been exhibited in New York and featured and published internationally. She currently lives and works in New York.
